The psychological, physical and sexual abuse that marked my life until my early twenties, led me to believe that my survival depended on accepting the “fact” that my only value was as a dumping ground for others’ pain.
But, as guardian of the truth, my intuition showed me that this was a lie. It told me that the nightmare would end: that my life – rich with happiness, serenity and fulfilment – was waiting. I just had to find it and own it. It might have been like climbing Everest at times, but I was well prepared.
Years later, trekking up Everest, our guide explained that we would be going “a little bit up and a little bit down”, each day because this was the only way to climb Everest. And so it was with my PTSD. Only, instead of a Gurkha, my guide was my intuition.
It taught me to cherish moments of happiness and appreciate the mountain of tears, fears and confusion. It taught me that I am an alchemist and my intuitive intelligence my alchemy. It also taught me that in becoming my own alchemist, I help others to become theirs!
As The Gap Coach, my mission is to make an enormously positive difference to the lives of people who want to learn how to use their intuitive intelligence, because I know it’s what makes us great. Just look at self-confessed lovers of intuition, such as Einstein, Steve Jobs and Nobel prize winner Rita Levi-Montalcini.
So, how can intuition help you overcome trauma and PTSD to find your greatness?
I have enough distance on mine now to see that my life has not been a journey away from trauma, but towards intuition. And yet, I defended my left-brain abilities with the ferocity of a mother lioness for years. I was terrified of anything that made me be noticed: the perfect fear to ensure that I denied my intuition.
The big breakthrough came when I swopped fear for curiosity. Suddenly, intuition became an exciting game. Then I started to act and think from enlightened self-interest by asking what was right for me before I considered what might be right for others, knowing that it would be perfect for them too. And this, in turn, led me to make changes that allowed my body’s systems to follow the rhythm of my HRV (the difference between beat-to-beat changes in heart rate), thus creating the coherence my organs needed to reach peak performance. My head and heart work together optimally in this state by bringing my brain’s hemispheres into balance: allowing me to access more of my intuition.
With my left and right hemispheres no longer at war, my intuition led me back to more left-brained activities, such as my new enjoyment of science. It helped me understand that whatever felt right in my body was to be acted on.
And that’s been true for all my breakthroughs. Intuition led me to get an education and to never give up on my life. It showed me how I could use the science that explains how our body is designed to support our intuitive intelligence and how, when combined with our other intelligences, we can make full use of our innate, pioneering spirit to become everything we are born to be.
It led me to study the wisdom traditions and psychology; to meditation, Reiki, NLP and past life regression, and to trauma family constellation work with Professor Franz Ruppert. It led me to give up corporate work and start my work – accompanying others out of trauma and low self-esteem, into the technicolour world of their intuition and success. It led me out of my own PTSD.
